How To Choose The Right Niche To Build An Authority Income Online

The hardest thing about making money online is getting started. If you are willing to put in the work and have the right marketing strategy, you will be successful making money online.

While some people do get lucky and stumble upon something that works right away, the rest of us need to do a lot of ground work to get our websites off the ground.

If you started your journey 5-10 years ago, you could create a website and game the search engines with a few SEO tricks.

Unfortunately, those days of instant search rankings are mostly gone.

Google has updated their search algorithms to only show the BEST content (it isn’t perfect, but they do a better job than before). This means that you can’t just write a few blog posts with a targeted keyword and start ranking.

Getting ranked in Google takes perseverance and dedication. For the first year, most new websites barely get any traffic from the search engines. Most of your traffic will likely come from people who are visiting your website from social media (if you have a good social media strategy).

For the first 6 months, you will likely be writing to an empty audience.

Think of it has creating a real world business, with the exception that you don’t have to pay for little expenses to get started. (the beauty of the digital world)

Anyone who has ever ran a real world business knows that it takes time to build traction and get customers through the door. There are ways that you can get instant traction (spending advertising dollars), but if you want to do it organically it will take time.

Building Up From the Ground Up

When you put up your first few dozen posts, you will likely have NOBODY reading them. You will check your Google Analytics stats daily and see a trickle of 5-10 random people ending up on your website, which absolutely sucks.

Who wants to slave away for months writing to a ghost audience, right?

This is why choosing your niche is extremely important when building an authority income. Without the right niche, most people will never make it past the initial few months. After they have created the website and written a few posts, they will get bored with the topic and likely give up.

Why the high failure rate?

Because writing about topics that you have no interest in is an absolute drag. It can almost feel like torture sitting in front of a keyboard trying to put words on a blank screen when you don’t care about what you are writing.

So how do you choose a topic that will make you a full time income?

Choose A Niche You are Passionate About

authority incomeWhen I say niche you are passionate about, I am talking about something that you love doing.

For example, a stay at home mom that LOVE raising her kids, would do well by creating a parenting website about how you can make your child the best they can be.

Someone who is addicted and obsessed with video games would do well by creating a website focusing on their topic.

If there are people who make full time incomes online off the old card game called MAGIC the Gathering, you can really make money on any topic as long as their are others who have a similar interest.

Everyone is passionate about something, you just need to find what you are passionate about.

Do you like running? Start a running blog. Are you an avid Fisher? Start a fishing blog. As you a super fan of the sports team you follow? Start a dedicated fan page for your favorite NBA/NHL/NFL team.

The odds are there are a lot of other people around the world who are passionate about the same niche. Sowing, hiking, rock climbing, knitting, art work, music, games, there are literally thousands of topics I can name that are passion niches that will do extremely well.

But what if there are already hundreds of blogs about a topic that I am interested in?

It doesn’t matter, start the blog in that niche anyways.

When someone is passionate about a topic, their work reflects it.

You are going to be successful in any niche as long as you TRULY care about the topic and are willing to spend time going above and beyond what is expected in making your website STAND OUT.

One of the benefits of the internet is it makes the world a small place. You can get people from a hundred different countries who all share similar interests about specific topics.

People are making full time livings online online the strangest topics. There are some people who sell tarot card readings, people coaching sports teams, food bloggers, educational experts and every imaginable niche you could imagine who are making money online.

Passion is the key ingredient to success

If you aren’t in love with a topic, you will have a hard time writing about it. Trust me, I know this from personal experience starting dozens of blogs that had great potential, but I couldn’t actually follow through with the writing part.

While some people will tell you that you can just outsource the articles for your blog (you certainly can), if you want to truly have a great website you have to create GREAT (WOW) content. And great content does not come from cheap writers who are getting paid by the word.

If you truly want to create articles that people are blown away by, you need to spend the time writing the articles yourself. And the only way that you are going to write the articles yourself for a consistent period of time is if you LOVE the niche you are writing about.

Trust me, if you made me write about Ballet Dancers, I would rather work a 9-5 job at McDonalds than write about Ballet dances.

The bottom line is…

YOU NEED TO LOVE THE TOPIC THAT YOU CHOOSE

Now that you understand the importance of being passionate about the niche that you choose, there is something else that helps when it comes to choosing a niche that will make you are full time income.

Choose a Niche You are Knowledgeable about

Expert NicheImagine you are in love with rock climbing and are extremely passionate about the subject, but you aren’t a terrible rock climber.

I hate to break it to you, but you probably don’t have much knowledge to share with rock climbers that could actually help them. What you will be forced to do is look at rock climbing articles and try and rewrite them into your own words.

While a lot of websites simply re-write other content and pass it off as their own, you will not create an engaged audience by being a copy cat. You can game the search engines and get rankings, but you won’t be able to really create an authority website in the niche.

To successful build an authority website in a niche, you need to have your own personality and experience to add to the topic.

When it comes to creating a blog that will make you a full time income it REALLY HELPS to know about the subject.

If you have to take an intensive rock climbing course and immerse yourself in the sport then do it. Anything that you can do to gain knowledge

You need to become an expert or knowledgeable about the subject you are writing about.

Whether you are a programmer creating a website about how to code or a photography who is teaching people how to take photos, YOU NEED TO BECOME AN EXPERT and POSITION Yourself as an expert in the niche.

You don’t have to be the BEST person in the niche, but you need people to think of you as someone who knows what they are talking about.

This is the difference between creating a personal blog about your journey to rockclimbing and a blog that combines your personality with tips and tricks for people who LOVE rock climbing.

If you choose a niche that you absolutely love and are knowledgeable about, then the rest will take care of itself.

Rome wasn’t Built in a DAY

A lot of people get turned off when they think about how much work they have to do to create a website that will drive traffic and earn them a full time income online.

While it will take you a lot of work, you need to think of it as a process. Every article that you write, will be one step closer to your goal of creating a living online for yourself.

If it was easy to make an income online, then everyone would do it. However, the truth is not many people are willing to put in the work to start an income online.

Even those who are willing to work, often fade out and give up when they don’t get the results that they want.

The key to creating a successful website is PERSISTENCE and the RIGHT STRATEGY.

The truth is that you probably wouldn’t be born today if your father hadn’t been persistent in pursuit of your mother. Imagine how many husbands were rejected the first time they asked their future wife out for a date.

This is exactly how you need to be when you are working on a website online. You need to be stubborn and persistent when it comes to finding a path to success.

You need to be willing to write to a ghost audience and you need to have a good strategy that will build your website.

If you put a half ass effort when it comes to creating your blog, you will get half ass results. The effort that you put in will be rewarded eventually (patience really is a virtue), you just need to make sure that you put in your BEST effort.

Going all in requires you to write KILLER articles and blog posts about the niche that you choose. The articles you will write will range from 2,000-10,000 words depending on the depth of the topic.

Yes, you do need to write GREAT content for your audience. Think of your content as your sales page to your audience. People who read your articles and like what you have to say are likely going to become fans of your page.

When someone becomes a fan of your website, you can potentially sell them stuff or making money from them in the future.

When you decide what niche you want to focus on, you need to be READY to go all in. This is going to set you apart from the hundreds of other blogs that are going to talk about the EXACT same stuff as you.

Think about how money MAKE MONEY ONLINE blogs there are online? Did that stop us from creating AuthorityIncome.com? 1. Find a Niche You Are Passionate About
  2. You Need to Be Knowledgeable or an Expert in that Niche
  3. You need to to be Willing to Go ALL IN

Just ask yourself this question: What topics make you want to jump out of bed in the morning when you should be sleeping?

Are you a big fan of brewing beer? Do you love bird watching? Are you an avid game hunter?

There are literally thousands of niche ideas that people are passionate about and making full time incomes online.

Just because there are dozens of websites already existing on a topic, doesn’t mean that you can’t compete.

Trust me, when you are passionate about a topic, it will come through in your writing and you audience will feel that passion. If you write compelling content for your website, they will want to come back and see what you have to offer.

This is the biggest mistake that I made when I first started trying to make money online. I chose niches based solely on keyword research, which made me hate the topics.

None of my original sites took off because I wasn’t willing to put in the time and effort to make the sites great.

Your niche selection is an important step in creating an income online, so make sure you would be willing to write about the subject regardless if you get paid to do it or not.
